Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can differentiate into various cell types, including osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells), and adipocytes (fat cells). Some key intracellular markers and proteins are associated with MSCs. For example, CD73 (Ecto-5'-nucleotidase) is an enzyme that plays a role in the production of extracellular adenosine. Various Wnt signalling proteins are implicated in MSC self-renewal and differentiation. The activation of specific Wnt pathways can drive MSCs toward osteogenic, chondrogenic, or adipogenic lineages.
