Specificity
This antibody recognises proto-oncogene c-Myc, also known as Class E basic helix-loop-helix protein 39, transcription factor p64 and avian myelocytomatosis viral oncogene homolog, when phosphorylated at serine 373. c-Myc is a transcription factor and a member of the Myc family of basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (bHLH-Zip) transcription factors. c-Myc is involved in regulation of the cell cycle, cell differentiation and apoptosis.Dimerization of c-Myc with bHLH-Zip protein Max is necessary for transcriptional activity. c-Myc is phosphorylated at serine 373 by PAK2, this inhibits the ability of c-Myc to dimerize with Max, negatively regulating the activity of c-Myc. PKC-zeta is also reported to phosphorylate c-Myc at serine 373.
