Principle of Assay
This kit provides a simple method for detecting activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in a variety of biological samples such as serum, plasma, animal tissues, cells and bacteria. GSH-Px catalyzes the oxidation of GSH by hydrogen peroxide to produce GSSG; glutathione reductase catalyzes the reduction of GSSG by NADPH to regenerate GSH, while NADPH is oxidized to produce NADP+. NADPH has a characteristic absorption peak at 340 nm, while NADP+ does not. The NADPH dehydrogenation rate is determined by measuring the rate of decrease in absorbance at 340 nm, which allows calculation of the GSH-Px activity.
