Mouse anti Human A2M antibody, clone M17, recognizes alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M), also known as CPAMD5. A2M is a major proteinase inhibitor, with the ability to bind most proteinases and many growth factors, hormones and cytokines in human blood and tissue (Kurz et al. 2017). A2M is largely produced by the liver under conditions of stress, and is then secreted into the blood and extracellular spaces. It is also produced locally by macrophages, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells (Kim et al. 2017). A2M levels dramatically decrease as humans age, a process which has been hypothesized to facilitate tumor development. In naked mole rats, a species with pronounced resistance to cancer, A2M has been shown to inhibit tumor growth regardless of tumor origin (Kurz et al. 2017).The purified Mouse anti Human A2M antibody, clone M17 (MCA6216GA) can be used as a capture antibody in a sandwich ELISA with the biotinylated Mouse anti Human A2M antibody, clone M5 (MCA6217B) as the detection antibody.
