General Notes
Soluble CD120b is also known as TNF receptor type II, TNFRSF1B and p80 TNF-alpha receptor. CD120b is a member of the TNF receptor superfamily and is a single spanning type I transmembrane receptor. Upon binding of its ligand TNF, the adaptor proteins TRAF-2 and TRAF-2-associated proteins are recruited. This results in the activation of the NF-?B signaling pathway as well as the activation of other signaling kinases. TNF-CD120b signaling promotes cell proliferation and survival. A soluble form of CD120b has been described and is produced as a result of alternative splicing or shedding. The soluble form competes with the membrane bound form for the ligand TNF. The binding of TNF to soluble CD120b effectively inhibits TNF signaling by competing with the membrane bound form.
