This antibody recognises the red fluorescent protein DsRed isolated from the mushroom coral Discosoma striata. The protein is also known as RFP and dsdrFP583. DsRed is a ~27 kDa protein that is optimally excited at a wavelength of 558 nm and emits light at 583 nm. In contrast to most other fluorescent proteins, which are monomers, DsRed tends to appear in a tetramer configuration.
