Specificity
This antibody recognises nuclear factor NF-kappa-B p65 subunit (NFkB3 p65) also known as transcription factor p65 or RELA, when phosphorylated at serine 276. NFkB p65 is part of the NFkB transcription factor complex that also includes RELB, NFkB1 p105, NFkB1 p50, REL and NFkB2 p52. NFkB p65 regulates expression of a wide variety of genes involved in immune and inflammatory responses (May, M.J. & Ghosh, S. 1997). Protein kinase A (PKA) phosphorylates NFkB p65 on serine 276 and modulates transcriptional activity of NFkB by mediating its interaction with CBP/p300 (Zhong, H. et al. 1998). Serine 276 has also been demonstrated to be phosphorylated by mitogen- and stress- activated protein kinase-1 (MSK1) (Vermeulen, L. et al. 2003). The NFkB pathway plays a critical role in orchestrating immune responses after infection and has been implicated in a variety of diseases ranging from autoimmune disorders to cancer.
