Name
Anti-CDK1 Antibody
Description
Rabbit polyclonal antibody to CDK1.
Specificity
This antibody recognises cell division control protein 2 homolog (Cdc2) also known as cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) and p34 protein kinase. Cdc2, a serine/threonine kinase, plays a crucial role in regulation of the eukaryotic cell cycle by phosphorylating proteins involved in DNA replication and other important cell cycle progression processes. Binding of cyclins to Cdc2 is essential for its regulation, and the kinase only becomes activated once bound to cyclins. Cyclin binding has also been reported to play a role in substrate recruitment. Cdc2 activity is highly regulated through phosphorylation by the serine/threonine protein kinase Wee1. This phosphorylation results in Cdc2 inactivation and consequently, cell cycle arrest at the G2/M transition stage. Wee1 phosphorylation is counteracted by the Cdc25 phosphatase, which dephosphorylates Cdc2 thereby enabling entry into mitosis.

General Notes
Rabbit anti Cdc2 antibody recognizes cell division control protein 2 homolog (Cdc2) also known as cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) and p34 protein kinase. Cdc2, a serine/threonine kinase, plays a crucial role in regulation of the eukaryotic cell cycle by phosphorylating proteins involved in DNA replication and other important cell cycle progression processes (Enserink and Kolodner 2010). Binding of cyclins to Cdc2 is essential for its regulation, and the kinase only becomes activated once bound to cyclins (Enserink and Kolodner 2010). Cyclin binding has also been reported to play a role in substrate recruitment (Enserink and Kolodner 2010).Cdc2 activity is highly regulated through phosphorylation by the serine/threonine protein kinase Wee1 (Harvey et al. 2005). This phosphorylation results in Cdc2 inactivation and consequently, cell cycle arrest at the G2/M transition stage (Harvey et al. 2005).
