CaMK II alpha is a member of the CAMK serine/threonine protein kinase family involved in the central nervous system, neurotransmitter release and synaptic plasticity.CaMK II alpha is activated upon binding of calcium/calmodulin, resulting in autophosphorylation at threonine 286.
